ESCANABA - The Marquette Red Bulls '01 opened their season with a 5-2 victory in Escanaba against the Bayside Sharpshins last weekend.
Marquette scored five straight goals, four coming in the first half, to erase Escanaba's 1-0 advantage.
Brendan McCoy tied the game 1-1, scoring off a pass from Evan Phillips, before Drew Wyble gave his team the lead for good on an unassisted goal on an arcing shot taken off a corner kick.
Wyble assisted on the next goal, also off a corner kick, that Tylor Thiel-Robinson headed in. McCoy made it 4-1 with another goal, assisted by Erik Salminen, as Nicolaas Vermaat played in net during the half.
In the second half, Thiel-Robinson scored his second goal off a rebound following Trevor Salmon's initial shot before Bayside scored with a minute to go. Soren Higgins worked in the Red Bulls' net in the second half.
