GWINN - A potent Manistique High School football passing combination of quarterback Tyler Kangas and tight end Max Nelson spelled doom for the Gwinn Modeltowners this weekend.
In the completion Saturday of a game suspended Friday night due to lightning, the Modeltowners dropped a 35-6 Mid-Peninsula Conference decision to the Emeralds (1-2 overall, 1-2 M-PC).
Kangas completed 11 of 22 passes for 332 yards, including touchdowns of 22, 77 and 21 yards to Nelson - all in the first half.
"We couldn't stop their passing game," Gwinn coach Darren Sinnaeve said after his team fell to 0-3 overall and 0-2 in the league this season.
Manistique's Tony Floyd added an 84-yard kickoff return for a score in the fourth quarter after Gwinn's Owen DeVooght had put his team on the board with an 18-yard TD run.
"We played much better and executed our offense in the second half (Saturday)," Sinnaeve said. "We moved the ball well in the second half."
