Westwood defeats Ishpeming by sweeping doubles matches

ISHPEMING - Behind a sweep in doubles, the Westwood High School girls' tennis team dropped visiting Ishpeming Thursday, 7-1.

Kara Harrington and Alexis Forchini led the way at No. 1 doubles with a 4-6, 6-0, 6-2 triumph over the Hematites' Taylor Croley and Jordann Grigg.

At No. 1 singles, the Patriots' Sarah Massie stopped Gabby Croley, 6-0, 6-1.

A bright spot for Ishpeming was Jaime Olson's 6-3, 6-4 win over Megan Chapman at No. 3 singles.

Gwinn 1

At Gwinn Thursday, the host Modeltowners couldn't stop Iron Mountain in girls tennis, losing 7-1.

Laurie March took No. 1 singles over Gwinn's Lydia Asplund, 6-2, 6-0.

At No. 1 doubles, the Mountaineers' Sarah Pirkola and Katie Lusardi toppled Taylor Aho and Haylee Lakenen.

In perhaps the day's most contested match, Gwinn's Madison Forrester and Alli Johnson outlasted Caity Teffet and Allysa Hood at No. 4 doubles, 7-6 (8), 1-6, 12-10.
