Michigamme man faces meth lab charge

MARQUETTE - A Michigamme man was arraigned Tuesday in Marquette County District Court on several charges, including maintaining a methamphetamine laboratory.

Mathew David Querfeld, 29, is lodged in the Marquette County Jail on a $47,500 bond.

He is scheduled for a preliminary examination in Marquette County District Court at 3 p.m. Sept. 17.

Querfeld is charged with one felony of maintaining a meth lab, which is a 20-year felony; possession of meth, a 10-year felony; license plate forgery, a 1- to 5-year felony and operating a vehicle while intoxicated, second offense, a 1-year misdemeanor.

Ishpeming Police Department officers said they arrested Querfeld Friday for driving under the influence of drugs. In searching the vehicle he was driving, police allegedly found several components for a meth lab, along with a small amount of suspected meth.

Police said further investigation revealed the license plate of the vehicle had been stolen or forged.
