MARQUETTE, MI. Richard Eugene Lampinen, age 83, of 1822 Fitch Avenue, Marquette, entered eternal life Saturday evening, September 1, 2012, at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans.
Born September 29, 1928 in Escanaba, a son of Emil and Signe (Kuitunen) Lampinen, Dick was raised in Rock and was a graduate of the Rock High School. He served in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict.
Following his honorable discharge from the military, Dick enrolled at Northern Michigan University, receiving a bachelors degree. His first teaching assignment was at the Mathias Township School in Trenary before beginning an over 35 year teaching career at the Gwinn High School. He retired in 1980. In his leisure, Dick was an avid golfer and enthusiastic fan of the professional sports teams out of Detroit; Wings, Tigers, and Lions. He also eagerly looked forward to playing cribbage at the Elks. He was a member of Richard Jopling Post #44 of the American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Lampinen, whom he married December 1, 1980 in Marquette; sons, David Lampinen, Michael (Kathy) Lynch, and David (Mary) Lynch all of Marquette; daughter, Patricia Louise (Peter) Chevrette of Channing; his grandchildren, Nicholas Lampinen, David Lampinen Jr, Kimberly (Alan) Papple, David, Matthew, Daniel, and Jacob Lynch, Sally (Kyle) Keski, Jason (Lacey) Schmeltzer, Joseph (Rachel) Schmeltzer, and Samantha Chevrette; great-grandchildren, Lilian, Iris, Emily, Joshua, and Jacob; a sister, Irene Korpi of Rock; a sister-in-law, Lucy Lampinen of Rock; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Roy Johnson; a brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Carie Lampinen; and brother-in-law, Leo Korpi.
A private family celebration of Dick's life will be held at a later date.
