MARQUETTE, MI. - Robert "Sonny" Marlowe, 83, of Marquette, passed away peacefully Wednesday evening, August 29, 2012 at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette with his loving family at his side.
Sonny was born on May 26, 1929 in Marquette, a son of the late Frank and Agnes (Richard) Marlowe and had been a lifelong area resident. He was a 1947 graduate of Baraga High School.
After graduation, Sonny owned a grocery delivery service prior to entering the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. At the conclusion of his military service he worked in car sales at the former Olson Motors in Marquette, later joining the U.P. Generating Company as a shift engineer for 15 years. In 1970, Sonny, his wife and sons purchased the Blue Link Party Store on Presque Isle Avenue, which they owned and managed together until 1984. Sonny's last employment was with the Michigan Lottery where he worked in public relations.

In his younger years, he played center with the Marquette Sentinels hockey team, winning the Gibson Cup in 1955.
He was a member of St. Christopher Catholic Church as well as American Legion Post #44.
Sonny enjoyed being with his family and friends, his daily talks with friends at the different establishments in town, tinkering with anything he could find and watching the Tigers & Packers. His times with his grandchildren and with the many Marlowe dogs were special. Telling stories, fishing, deer season with his sons on the Fence River and dragging the bucks out of the woods were what he loved. He cherished getting the blinds ready and bringing in apples to get ready for the opener.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, the former Marilyn Parent whom he married on August 20, 1955 at St. John's Catholic Church in Marquette; three sons, Steven Marlowe of Tucson, AZ, David (Cindy) Marlowe of Crown Point, IN and Jamie (Allison) Marlowe of Marquette; six grandchildren, Joshua and Chelsea Marlowe, David and Leah Marlowe, and Kelsie and Lauren Marlowe; two sisters, Betty Washburn and Dorothy Mattson, both of Marquette; also numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death besides his parents was a brother, Richard "Richie" Marlowe and two nephews, Randall Marlowe and Richard Washburn.
Sonny's family would like to thank all who cared for him at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans for their kindness and love they gave him.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, September 8th at 12 noon in St. Christopher Catholic Church with the Most Rev. James H. Garland, Bishop Emeritus of Marquette officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends from 10 a.m. Saturday until the time of the Mass in the church. Inurnment will take place in the Holy Cross Cemetery Columbarium.
