BIG RAPIDS - Northern Michigan University was the lone team among nine to go undefeated in their four matches at the season-opening Ferris State Volleyball Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
The Wildcats lost just one game in sweeping Mercyhurst, West Virginia State and Glenville (W.Va.) State and winning 3-1 against Minnesota-Crookston.
NMU handed Mercyhurst and Crookston their only losses at the event, while the two West Virginia schools went 0-4. The host Bulldogs along with Northwood also posted 3-1 marks.
Two NMU players were named to the 12-member all-tournament team - junior middle hitter Sarah Hamilton and junior setter Kellisha Harley.
Hamilton was second on the team with 33 kills and a .394 attack percentage while adding six total blocks. Harley set up Northern's offense with 125 assists and also contributed 16 digs, 13 kills and six service aces.
The Wildcats stay on the road for another three weeks, opening the season with 13 straight matches away from NMU's Vandament Arena before the home opener at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 25 against Michigan Tech.
