MARQUETTE, Mich. - Angela Carmella Koistenen, 92, of Marquette, Michigan (formerly of Ontonagon), passed away Sunday, August 26, 2012, in Marquette.

Angela was born June 7, 1920 in Brooklyn, New York. She was the daughter of Joseph and Antoinette Damanti. She graduated from Sacred Hearts School, Bishop McDonnell Memorial High School, and Grace Institute College in New York. She worked in the Executive Office of F.W. Woolworth Co. in the Woolworth Building in New York. Angela sold bonds and was an interpreter for the Italian prisoners of War during World War II.

On March 10, 1946, she was united in marriage to Carl Neil Koistenen at St. Jude's Church in Brooklyn, New York. Angela and Neil met at a dance in New York, and she often joked that was the only time they ever danced in their 60 year marriage!

Angela was involved in many creative activities. She was an accomplished artist, she sewed most of the clothing for her family, she baked and decorated wedding and special occasion cakes (Sicilian Rum Cake was her specialty!), and she made her home shine with a flare unmatched in the area. Angela always had an open door and loved hosting friends and strangers alike. She was gracious to a fault and is remembered for her hospitality by all who were lucky enough to visit her home.

Angela was a devout Catholic who centered her life in her religion. She was a member of St. Jude's Church in White Pine and enjoyed many years as part of that parish.

Angela loved music and social gatherings. She enjoyed her time in the Kitchen Band and the Red Hat Club, and she brought that special grace to everything she did. She was in everyone's opinion a feisty Italian...full of laughter and love!

Angela is survived by her children JoAnne Barnes of Denver, CO and Janet Koistenen of Gwinn, MI; grandchildren Christopher Skoviak of Negaunee, MI, Corey Skoviak of Hollywood, CA, Jackie Kosey (Rick Pietela) of Washington, DC, and Sienna Rose Fegan of Marquette, MI; and great-grandchildren Tony and Tasia Skoviak of Green Bay, WI. Angela has many special nieces and nephews in Michigan and New York. She loved her family and held them near to her heart.

Angela was preceded in death by her daughter, Carole Kosey; her parents; brother Angelo Damati; sister Rose Tucci; and her husband, Carl Koistenen.

Services for Angela will be held on Friday, August 31, 2012 at St. Jude's Church in White Pine, MI. Visitation will take place from 10-11 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. The Cane Funeral Home is assisting the family.

In lieu of flowers, you may make donations to St. Jude's Children's Hospital in Memphis, TN.
