NEGAUNEE - Kayla Hakala at No. 3 singles led a host of Negaunee High School tennis players Tuesday in the squad's 8-0 victory over visiting Ishpeming.
Hakala dropped the Hematites' Jaime Olson, 6-0, 6-2.
"She has been steady for us all year and she's a tough match for anyone at No. 3," Negaunee coach Kyle Saari said of Hakala.
The Miners, now 5-0-1, saw all but two of their matches decided in two sets - a 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 win by IHS' Ashley DeBretto and Mandi Grasso at No. 1 doubles, and a 6-0, 5-7, 6-1 triumph by Sarah Paquette and Kassy Harsila at No. 4 doubles.
"It was nice to see two three-set wins," Saari said. "We're starting to do a better job of finishing volleys and ending points."
Abbi Kill at No. 1 singles knocked off Ishpeming's Gabby Croley, 6-1, 6-2.
