Marquette man faces assault charge in barroom stabbing

MARQUETTE - A 31-year-old Marquette man was being held in the Marquette County Jail Saturday, awaiting arraignment in District Court, accused of stabbing another man in a bar fight Friday night.

The name of the arrested man was being withheld by police, pending his arraignment. The name and residing town of the 42year-old victim was also withheld by police Saturday.

Shortly before 10:30 p.m. Friday, police responded to a report of a large fight at the Long Shot Saloon, located at 149 W. Baraga Av. in Marquette. In a news release, police said the went to the bar and found that the alleged victim had been stabbed numerous times. The man was taken to Marquette General Hospital where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and later released.

Police said the suspect in the stabbing had fled the bar, but was located shortly afterward and arrested for felonious assault.
