PETOSKEY - Unable to mount much offense, the Marquette Senior High School boys soccer team came out with a tie and a loss in the Petoskey Invitational Saturday.
The Redmen of head coach Matt Tebo played downstate Petoskey to a 0-0 deadlock before losing to Stoney Creek High School of Rochester Hills, 4-1.
MSHS goalkeeper Tony Lackey made eight saves against Petoskey, while the Redmen were putting just four shots on goal - all in the second half - on the Northmen's net.
"Petoskey's good. I'm happy to get a tie with them," Tebo said.
Against Stoney Creek, the Redmen (2-1-3) put just one shot on goal, that being a penalty kick that Billy Mullett scored on in the second half to make it 2-1.
Stoney Creek attempted 19 shots, with Lackey making 11 saves.
"It was 93 degrees out that last game and I think the kids got burnt out," Tebo said.
"It was still a good day. The kids worked hard. It's our first loss and we'll just move on from there."
