IRON RIVER - Sweeping the doubles competition, the Negaunee High School girls tennis team kept its unbeaten 2012 record intact Friday by beating host West Iron County, 6-2.
"It has been a solid start and we'll keep pushing to get better," NHS head coach Kyle Saari said after his Miners had improved to 4-0-1.
He added his doubles "carried us and that was good for their confidence."
He noted Kassy Harsila and Sarah Paquette at No. 4 doubles have "played well of late" and won Friday.
At No. 1 singles, Abbi Kill fell to the Wykons' Kylee Erickson, 6-1, 6-2. At No. 1 doubles, however, Ashley Anderson and Mandi Grasso of Negaunee stopped Mallory Tomasoski and Jessie Prudhomme, 6-1, 6-2.
