Walter N. Nutt Jr.

HARVEY, Mich. - Walter Newton Nutt Jr., age 78, of 420 Green Bay Street, Harvey, entered eternal life Tuesday afternoon, August 21, 2012, at Marquette General Hospital, in the comfort and loving care of his family.

Walt was born August 13, 1934, in Lapeer, Michigan, a son of Walter Newton Nutt Sr. and Beatrice Anna Middleton, and was raised in West Branch Township. Walt joined the military and served in the U.S. Air Force for a span of over 20 years. While climbing the ranks to become an Air Force Master Sergeant, he met "the love of his life" our "Beloved Dori." On May 25, 1961, they were married. After only missing twelve days in twenty years of service, he retired as Master Sargent in the USAF in 1972, and Marquette became their home. This is where he spent his life as a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Walt was strongly patriotic and proud of his country. He had a love for wildlife and the beauty of Mother Nature that will be forever instilled in all of us.

Survivors include his children, Edie (Kirk) Toutant of Gwinn and children w/ grands, Walter "Bill" Nutt of Lawrence, KS and child w/ grands, the twins, Dorothea "Dee" Yokeum (Dave) of Palmetto, Fla. and children w/grands, and Stewart Yokeum (Diane) of Gwinn and child, Walter Newton Nutt III (Marilyn) of Harvey and child w/ grands; also among them a special nephew, Brad McCormick and wife, Linda of Lower Michigan and children w/grands; a sister, Nila and Frisco (deceased) Niner of Arizona; best friend and brother-in-law, Gary, and wife, Donna Paquin. Walt was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Newton Nutt and Beatrice Middleton; his beloved wife, Dori; a son, John Frederick Yokeum; sister, Martha "Mickey" and Dave Welsh; brothers, Robert and Betty McCormick, Richard Nutt and Floyd Nutt.

A celebration of Walt's life will be held at American Legion Post 44, 700 W. Bluff Street, Marquette, on Wednesday, August 29, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Veteran's honors will be rendered at 5:30 p.m. and the celebration will conclude at 8:00 p.m. with a prayer service.
