NEWBERRY, MI. - Keith "Curly" J. Montcalm, 85, of Newberry, died Wednesday evening August 22, 2012 at Helen Newberry Joy Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Born June 16, 1927 in Munising, son of the late Edward J. & Minnie S. (Beauparland) Montcalm, Curly was a 1945 graduate of Newberry High School. A veteran of World War II, he served in the United States Army until his honorable discharge on January 23, 1947. Following his discharge, Curly attended Northern Michigan University in Marquette for one year and came back to Newberry where he was employed by the United States Postal Service for 30 years, retiring in 1982. Following his retirement from the Postal Service, Curly continued employment at Mac's Market in Newberry.
Curly was a member of St. Gregory's Catholic Church and life member of the Knight of Columbus #2929, B.P.O.E. #1705 and the American Legion Post #74, serving on various committees. Curly enjoyed hunting, skiing, woodworking and also playing the drums in the Shrine and Legion band for several years.

In addition to his parents, Curly is preceded in death by his siblings Donald, Gerarld, Theodore, Benedict, Leonella Larson, Aunilea Hunt, Barbara Mattson and Eileen Sarrault.
Survivors include his loving wife, the former Betty Jancik of Newberry, whom he married May 15, 1971 in Chula Vista, CA; siblings Marie Kempainen of Huntington Woods and Ann Stahelin of Ludington; several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at St. Gregory's Catholic Church in Newberry on Tuesday August 28, 2012 from 9:00 am until 11:00 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the church at 11:00 am with Fr. Frank Ricca officiating. Rite of Committal with military honors will follow on Tuesday August 28th at 2:30 pm at Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising.
