To the Journal editor:
The Better-Buildings for Michigan Program is being offered through the City of Marquette and Superior Watershed Partnership for a limited time.
Through this program homeowners living north of U.S. 41 in the city of Marquette can take advantage of a comprehensive energy assessment of their home for only $50.
These normally run between $400 and $800 depending on the size of your home. Also included are a number of free direct installs, including a programmable thermostat valued at $70, 10 compact fluorescent light bulbs, a low-flow shower-head, faucet aerators, and more.
In addition there are rebates and low interest financing available if a homeowner chooses to do major energy improvements. Funding is available to assist with the purchase of new windows, new appliances, like furnaces, hot water heaters, dishwashers, insulation, air sealing, and much more.
I participated in the Better-Buildings for Michigan Program and was very impressed with the energy assessor who came to my home. He was professional, thorough and did a spectacular job.
This program is a perfect example of our tax dollars coming back to our community, to help our community. We should all be taking advantage of this program because ultimately it will help us lower our energy bills.
Eligibility is simple. If you own a home, you are eligible. If you own a rental with 1 and 4 units, you are eligible.
