ISHPEMING - The Upper Peninsula Power Co. has announced a three-mile span of overhead power line near the McClure Hydro Power Plant is once again in service following the completion of a reconstruction project.

The dam is located on the Dead River in Marquette County.

The power company reports the power line between the dam and a sub station is now in service, completing a loop in the system that allows a separate line to be taken out of service due to storms or planned outages without affecting customer power supply on other portions of the line.

The line and 58 power poles were reconstructed following the replacement of the dam's 91-year-old penstock pipe, which delivers water from the reservoir to the electric turbines in the power house.

The 2.4-mile penstock replacement allowed for easy access to the power line reconstruction project.

The two generating units at the dam produce nearly 8.5 megawatts.
