"It's just an honor for them to recognize all of our hard work and the hard work of, really, our whole team," Simmons said.
Simmons was given the honor at a Career Choices Curriculum conference earlier this month.
"It's kind of cool to see the people I went to the conference with, to see them before and I looked up to them and now they were coming to me," she said. "It's kind of affirming to hear that, questions from some of the people you learned things from."
MSHS was also given the Bronze Award for its work in helping implement the curriculum into its students' daily lives.
Simmons said now that she has returned from the conference, she's looking forward to taking what she learned and using it to help infuse the program, which currently focuses on high school freshman, in all grades at the high school level.
"All of our students are leaving Marquette Senior High School with a really well thought out, 10-year plan that supports their goals and dreams and desires," Simmons said. "For me, that was the most exciting thing from the conference. We feel that excitement at the ninth grade level, but you wish it for the next grades as well."
