MARQUETTE, Mich. - Dorces Merle LaMere, 90, of 777 Pioneer Road, Marquette, entered eternal life Saturday afternoon, August 11, 2012, in the loving, comforting care of her family and the caregivers of UP Home Health and Hospice.

Born April 17, 1922, in Marquette, a daughter of Edward and Florence (Perry) Smith, Dorces was a lifelong Marquette resident. On April 22, 1939, she married Edward C. LaMere and together the couple established their home and raised their large family in Marquette. Eventually, the family included eleven children, to which Dorces and Ed were very devoted.

Dorces enjoyed her role as wife and mother and her hobbies often ended up being interests that were part of raising a large family; knitting and cooking, but also including leisurely pursuits such as bowling, participating in bingo, and visiting the casino. All this she took in stride, even when her children were bringing home their friends for a good home cooked meal.
