MARQUETTE, Mich. - Lawrence Sullivan, 80, of Marquette, passed away early Friday morning, August 10, 2012 at Mill Creek Assisted Living in the comfort of his family and UP Home Health & Hospice.

He was born June 11, 1932, in Ironwood, Michigan, a son of the late James H. and Annabelle (Fitzgerald) Sullivan. He was raised in Hurley, Wisconsin, and was a 1950 graduate of Hurley High School.

Larry then attended Gogebic community College, earning a Bachelor's Degree in business, and later attended electrician school in Ironwood.

On September 17, 1955, he married the former Donna Marie Lauzon in St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Ironwood. They lived in Hurley a short time and began traveling as they followed his work as an electrician with the local union #242.

The couple lived in Minnesota, Wisconsin and settled in Marquette in 1962 where he was employed as a construction electrician.

In 1977 he began working at NMU as a master electrician and retired in 1990 due to ill health.

Larry enjoyed gardening and received many ribbons for his roses and dahlias. He also enjoyed helping his wife with jewelry projects for St. Peter's Altar Society, repairing and cleaning donated jewelry for the annual bazaar.

He loved and enjoyed his family, especially spending time with his grandchildren. He was a loving husband, devoted father and grandfather.

He will be dearly missed and remembered by his family and friends as having a great sense of humor, always bringing a smile with his many jokes. He was a true blooded Irishman.

Larry is survived by his wife of 56 years, Donna Marie Sullivan; two children, Robert Sullivan and Catherine (Patrick) O'Donnell; two grandchildren, Daniel P. and Colleen M. O'Donnell; nieces and nephews Matthew, Eileen and Andrew Sullivan; and a cousin, Nancy (Peter) Lorschard. Larry was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, James F. Sullivan.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, August 13, 2012, at 11 a.m. at St. Peter Cathedral. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the Mass in the Bishop's Room of the church. Entombment will take place in The Holy Cross Cemetery Mausoleum.

The family would like to thank U.P. Home Health & Hospice and Mill Creek Assisted Living for their wonderful care.
