SAULT STE. MARIE, MI. - Formerly of Kincheloe, Carol Jean Holmes of Chesterton, Indiana passed away on Sun Aug 5th 2012 at the age of 60 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
She was born in Sault Ste. Marie MI June 3, 1952 to Dolores Forrest Holmes and George Holmes.
Carol was an extremely hard working and generous daughter, sister, mother, and friend who was always doing for others. She loved life and enjoyed cooking, painting, sewing, crafts of all kinds and especially in these last months keeping busy on the computer. Carol was very dedicated to tracing her family's history and did extensive geneology research.
Up until she was too sick to work, she had been employed as a caregiver at assisted living facilities in both Michigan and Indiana for many years.
She leaves behind so many whom she loved and who loved her, including, six precious grandchildren; Lily, Mikey, Shawn, Lance, Nia, and Brooklyn. Two sons, Michael (Melissa) Forbes of El Dorado,CA and Scott (Latoya) Forbes of Merriville, IN, three daughters, Vanessa (Matthew) Towner and Crystal Forbes of Chesterton, IN and Bernadette Darden of Virginia Beach, VA.
She is also survived by her mother, Dolores Holmes Cartwright of Kincheloe, three brothers; Richard (Tammy) Holmes of Marquette, David (Bonnie) Holmes of Dafter, Jerry Holmes of Kincheloe and two sisters, Susan Holmes of Ogdensburg, NY and Sheila (Gary) Hatch of Kincheloe, two step brothers, Randy and Donald Cartwright and three step sisters, Sherrie Smith, Cindy Fabry and Debra Cartwright. And so many aunts, uncle, nieces, nephews and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her dad, George Holmes in 1978.
Visitation will be held Friday, Aug. 10th from 4pm-8pm at C. S. Mulder Funeral Home.
Interment will be Saturday, Aug 11th at 11am at Hillcrest Cemetery, Raco MI.
She will be deeply missed.
