MARQUETTE - It's down to two in the race for Marquette County Probate Court Judge, with Cheryl Hill and George Hyde the top two vote-getters in Tuesday's election.

"I would like to thank the voters of Marquette County for all of their support," Hill said this morning. "It was a great pleasure to get out and meet so many of you during the campaign."

Hill received the most votes with 4,271. Hyde came in second with 2,621 votes.

"I want to thank everybody that voted for me yesterday, and I want to thank everybody that has helped in my campaign," Hyde said today. "I'm very humbled by their support. I also want to thank the other candidates ... for running a clean and professional campaign."

Following Hill and Hyde were Cathy Church, with 1,968 votes, Robbie Powelson, with 1,293 votes and Pat Jennings, with 592 votes.

Hill and Hyde will square off in November for the judgeship that has been held for 31 years by Judge Michael Andregg.

"The probate court judge is a very important position in our community and I would be honored to serve as our next probate judge," Hill said. "I look forward to meeting more members of our community as I move forward to the general election in November."

Hyde also said he is looking forward to the months ahead as he campaigns for the judgeship.

"My supporters and I intend to continue campaigning hard to get the message out that I am the best and most qualified person for this job," Hyde said. "We need to make people realize that I am just a regular guy and everybody in every situation are equally important to me. I believe that I'm the right person for the job and we're going to keep campaigning."
