To the Journal editor:
U.S. Rep. Dan Benishek, R-Crystal Falls, claims to know what's good for business. In fact, he brags about his 100 businesses in 100 days tour where he is supposedly looking to find ways to help businesses.
I'm sure he's been told more than once that what the small businesses need are more customers with more money to spend.
Since he has not made any effort to talk to the rest of us non-business types, I'll have to take this opportunity to give him a piece of my mind.
Small businesses don't need more tax breaks; they suffer like the rest of us with diminished public services and infrastructure which are the result of reckless, irresponsible tax cuts for the rich.
Businesses need for us (the 99 percent) to make more money because the real problem is that many of us here in the U.P. aren't making nearly enough money since we are living off minimum wage; not a living wage.
Wise up Benishek. If you truly care about stimulating the economy and helping small businesses, you will vote to raise the minimum wage. No more trickle down, it doesn't work.
We need a rise-up economy that works for everyone.
