MARQUETTE - In conjunction with National Night Out, the Ishpeming Volunteer Fire Department is sponsoring an open house at the Ishpeming fire department building, giving the public the chance to get to know their firefighters and the building they operate out of.
National Night Out is a nation-wide event that promotes community spirit and connections with local law enforcement agencies as a crime-fighting measure.
In Ishpeming, the open house will run from 1-8 p.m., Tuesday, with hot dogs and soda available for visitors.
During the open house, city residents will have the chance to meet the volunteers that make up the department, said Fire Chief Ed Anderson.
"It would be nice to have people come and see what the fire department is all about," Anderson said.
In addition, with the future of the fire hall and a potential millage-funded building project currently under discussion by the city council, the open house is also a chance for the public to tour the fire hall and view areas of the 100-year-old building that are causing concern.
"Come down and see for yourself what the facility is," Anderson said.
