Civil war battery opens fire

Max Duncan, front, fires a cannon as the rest of Battery D covers their ears during a demonstration at the "Iron Ore and the Civil War" living history encampment presentation on Saturday at the Michigan Iron Industry Museum in Negaunee Township. The museum is holding the annual living history encampment, this weekend. At the event visitors learn about what it was like to live at a military camp and fight during the Civil War. The recreation is put on by Battery D, 1st Michigan Light Artillery. Artillery demonstrations are scheduled for 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 2 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. today. Other activities are held throughout the day at the museum from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Journal photo by Adelle Whitefoot)
