To the Journal editor:
As a taxpayer, union retiree, friend, and fellow commissioner, I am supporting John Kivela for the 109th State Representative seat. I have worked with John and know he will do the best job for us.
John has worked very hard to help get projects done that other commissions have failed at. In his first year he fought to get the roads in north Marquette paved and won.
This had never been done before because this has always been the "poor side of town," but he kept his promise. We have also gotten the Seventh Street extension done after 30 years and the McClellan extension done after 40 plus years.
When the senior center funding was on the chopping block, John came up with the plan to pass a millage to fund the senior center, but only if the general fund milage was reduced the same. It was, and now we have a senior center that offers more without a tax increase.
I am very proud that he has not taken any money from the special interests that throw thousands of dollars around. That's just the way he is.
John is the kind of person that will find common ground with anyone. ?Though we will miss his leadership and personality on the commission, I know he will serve us well in Lansing.
Please vote for John Kivela in the Tuesday primary.
