NEGAUNEE - No names have been released in the motorcycle accident that killed a 46-year-old Negaunee Township man Friday morning.
According to the Marquette County Sheriff's Office, the accident occurred at 9:08 a.m. as a semi truck was traveling eastbound on U.S. 41 near the intersection with M-35.
Police said the truck had slowed to make a left turn. The motorcycle following the truck and carrying the accident victim was apparently unable to stop and struck the rear of the semi.

The operator of the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene. The operator of the semi was not injured.
Police said the motorcycle driver was not wearing a helmet.
Eastbound traffic on U.S. 41 was detoured via M-35 for approximately two hours due to the crash.
Assisting at the scene were troopers from the Michigan State Police Negaunee Post, the Negaunee Township Fire Department and Medi-Ride EMS.
The accident remains under investigation.
