Law is offensive

July 29, 2012
The Mining Journal

To the Journal editor:

I am a faithful Catholic. I sell health insurance. Effective Aug. 1, if I am going to continue in my business, federal law requires that I advertise and sell only health insurance that offends my informed Catholic conscience by covering contraceptive products and services. If I wish to pursue my trade, I must market and deliver products that support intrinsically evil actions.

Fortunately, I have a choice: I can give up my livelihood.

On the other hand, if you are a faithful Catholic, and you are a woman, you must purchase and pay for those same products. You don't have a choice, because under federal law, insurance that provides these functions is the only kind that may be sold. If you refuse to purchase and pay for it, your federal government will fine you, or tax you, or whatever it is they call it, and of course, you will not have any health insurance.

I guess this is what the president meant when he said: "If you like your plan, you can keep it." Joe Wilson was right.
