MARQUETTE - Gwinn Area Fun Daze takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
The activities kick off with a parade at 10 a.m. The theme this year is "Have a Song in Your Heart." Children are encouraged to decorate their bikes and join in the parade, with ribbons to be awarded to the best decorated bikes of children 14 and under.
Musical units in the parade include the Negaunee City Band and the Superior Pipes and Drums, both of which will perform in concert at the park after the parade. The Blue Notes Drum and Bugle Corps will be part of the parade as well along with the American Legion Post 349 color guard, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5670 color guard, the Ahmed Temple Shriners marching unit and Smokey the Bear with his new fire truck and Michigan Department of Natural Resources personnel.
From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Peter Nordeen Park will be the center of many activities including food booths, a dunk tank, pony rides and kids games. The American Legion Post and its auxiliary will host bingo in the park pavilion. Community wellness information will be available, including free blood pressure and blood glucose testing.
Just two blocks from the park, a classic and antique car-truck-tractor show will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the parking lot of the Gwinn High School. The show is sponsored by the Gwinn Lions Club.
The Forsyth Township Historical Society Museum will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. It is located on the second floor of the Forsyth Township office.
Organizers request those attending leave their pets at home as the large crowd expected in the park will be stressful for animals.
Fun Daze is organized by the Gwinn-Sawyer Chamber of Commerce.
