The Mining Journal

Boy Scout Troop 360, sponsored by Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, took a couple of trips this summer. In the photo above are members who went to New Mexico and took part in an eight-day horseback camping event at the Philmont Scout Ranch in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Included are, front row from left, adviser Mark Matteson of Troop 372, adviser Jordan Smith, Paul Motter, Lance Rambo and Adam Smith; and back row, from left, crew leader Michael Edwards, adviser Brian Motter, Ethan Locke, Conner Elliott, Sam Leow, Wes Matteson of Troop 372 and past Scoutmaster Dan "Huk" Hakala. In the wagon are Philmont staff members Christine Lazina, who was the crew horseman, and Lynn Green, who was the wrangler. Crew members were responsible for the care of their horses and camped in different backcountry camps each night and took part in programs ranging from shooting and reloading to rodeo riding. Some members also took a three-day trip to Porcupine Mountains State Park. Shown at the park in photo below, are, from left, Jack Phillips, Seth Potts, Assistant Scoutmaster Jim Yates, Grant Daignault, Ian Bek, Luke Mattson, Ben Noble, Nathan Garwood and Thayer Yates. Other members who made the trip but aren't shown include Scoutmaster Greg Gostomski, Assistant Scoutmaster Ryan Lipinski, Noah Gostomski, Brendan Lochner and past Scoutmaster Paul Salfai.
