Dems’ interest not well served by minority leader

July 14, 2012
The Mining Journal

House of Representatives Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi has never been known for sticking to the facts. Her wild flights of demagoguery have become more frequent since her party lost control of the House.

In an interview recently, Pelosi, D-Calif., spoke about the national health care law.

Conservatives who want to repeal the law are "being the mouthpiece of the health care industry," Pelosi insisted.

Actually, many in the industry like the law and applauded last week's Supreme Court ruling that upheld most of its provisions.

Pelosi went on to insist the law puts people "in charge of how they receive coverage and health care."

The law requires Americans to pay for health insurance approved by the government, or to pay fines for refusing to comply.

"And everybody will have lower rates, better quality care and better access" under the law, Pelosi said. Actually, even government analysts admit health care costs will go up as a result of the statute.

Conservatives have suggested beneficial sections of the law should be retained - but Pelosi claimed they want to repeal the entire act.

As usual, Pelosi isn't telling it straight.
