NEGAUNEE, Mich. - Louis William Chiri, 75, of 105 Sheldon St., Negaunee died on Friday, July 6, 2012 at the Westgate Nursing Home in Ironwood following a lengthy illness.

Louie was born January 16, 1937 in Ishpeming to Louis J. and Genevieve "Riley" (Trombley) Chiri, was a graduate of Negaunee High School, Class of 1956 and was a lifelong area resident. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Following his service to his country he worked for Cleveland Cliffs Iron Company as an equipment operator, retiring with over 30 years of service.

Mr. Chiri was a former member of St. Paul Catholic Church and the Negaunee Knights of Columbus.

Surviving are his wife Judith C. (Hartwig), one daughter Christine (Scott) Ring of Negaunee, one grandson Jonathan Chiri, two granddaughters, Rebecca Ring and Macela Schroeder, one sister Helen (Roger) Tessling of Negaunee, his former wife, Cindy Chiri of Iron Mountain, numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Mary Ann Ruesing and a brother John "Jan" Chiri.

A private memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday at the Koskey Funeral Home with Rev. Steven Solberg officiating. Inurnment will be in the Negaunee Cemetery Columbarium.
