SAULT STE. MARIE - Unable to muster much offense, the Marquette American Legion Blues dropped a 7-1 baseball decision to Alpena Saturday in the Sault Ste. Marie Tournament.
After the winners had taken a 2-0 lead in the third inning, the Blues (33-13) scored a run in the fourth on a leadoff double by Jared Wales and an RBI-single by Nathan Mutch.
But Alpena pushed across four runs in the fifth and one in the sixth to put the game away.
"This was a game (in which) we just couldn't seem to string any hits together," Blues manager Derek Swajanen said. "We had a lot of baserunners, but just couldn't do anything with them again.
"We seem to get in little ruts where we struggle to move runners and then all of a sudden, we'll go out and put a ton of runs on the board."
