MARQUETTE - Marquette City Police arrested a 30-year-old Gwinn man Saturday who they said was the driver allegedly involved in a crash on the Fourth of July that resulted in the death of a Marquette woman and the serious injury of her husband.

The name of the suspect is being withheld pending his expected arraignment today or Monday in Marquette County District Court. Police said they located the suspect vehicle, which was a sport utility vehicle. The crash occurred near the intersection of South Front Street and Genesee Street.

Bryan LaChapell, 39, and his wife Karin, 42, were struck as they walked to watch Marquette's Fourth of July fireworks display. Police said Karin LaChapell suffered serious injuries in the incident and she was pronounced dead at Marquette General Hospital. Hospital officials said Bryan LaChapell, who had been seriously hurt in the crash and was later listed in stable condition, was discharged Friday.

The Gwinn man was arrested after being interviewed by detectives. Police declined to release more details about the investigation results until after the arraignment.

Police thanked the community for "numerous tips which assisted in the arrest of the suspect driver."
