To the Journal editor:
I was told the reason gas prices in Marquette are so high is because it's Marquette. I think other businesses should pressure the gas stations to lower the price to keep business in Marquette.
Before we buy a large item we check the price locally then go to Escanaba to check their price and usually end up buying in Escanaba because it's cheaper. The sales tax then goes to the Escanaba area. When I know I am going out of town I wait to buy our gas elsewhere.
The Marquette area is losing a lot of sales tax money because people are shopping out of town. It is too bad television channels 3, 6 and 10 don't back The Mining Journal on this very important issue.
This kind of "greed" is really going to hurt Marquette.
