MARQUETTE - A Marquette man who was struck by a vehicle Wednesday night in a hit-and-run accident has been discharged to home from Marquette General Hospital.

Marquette City Police are continuing to search for the driver of a vehicle that left the scene Wednesday night after striking Bryan LaChapell, 39, and his wife Karin, 42, as they walked to watch Marquette's Fourth of July fireworks display.

Police said Karin LaChapell suffered serious injuries in the incident and she was pronounced dead at Marquette General. Hospital officials said Bryan LaChapell, who had been seriously hurt in the crash and was later listed in stable condition, was discharged Friday.

Police said they have received numerous witness tips on the accident, but are still soliciting more information from the public. Each of the tips received are being followed up on.

Officers said the crash was reported at 10:28 p.m. Wednesday and occurred at the intersection of South Front Street and Genesee Street. Police said the LaChapells were walking east across Front Street, from Genesee when they were struck by the vehicle, which was headed south along Front Street.

Police said a traffic light was flashing yellow for Front Street traffic at the intersection. The vehicle did not stop at the scene.

A celebration of Karin LaChapell's life will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the Eastwood Apostolic Lutheran Church, located along Maas Street in Negaunee. Pastor Dale Niskanen will be officiating. Visitation will precede the service from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The Swanson-Lundquist Funeral Home of Marquette is assisting the family.

To report information on the incident, contact the Marquette City Police Department at 228-0400.
