Cheryl Ann Demars

NEW SWANZY, MI. - Cheryl Ann (Peterson) Demars, 67, of New Swanzy, died Wednesday morning, July 4, 2012, at Marquette General Hospital. She had been a resident of the Mather Nursing Center in Ishpeming for the last five years.

Cheryl was born on September 30, 1944, the same day as her sister, Sandra, in Arnold, Michigan and together they celebrated all of their birthdays together.

She attended St. Joseph School and Holy Name High School in Escanaba, graduating from Gwinn High School in 1962.

Early on, Cheryl enjoyed crafts, sewing and writing poetry. She even had several of her poems published.

She also knitted sweaters and mittens and made many clothes for her niece's Barbie dolls.

Cheryl looked forward to watching the Kentucky Derby each year. When she was able to get out, she attended several of the plays put on by the Gwinn High School Drama Department. She and her husband, Gary, enjoyed playing Cribbage and Bingo together.

She also had several special pets: Ti Ti, Princess, Sir James, Dusty, Heidi and Hannah.

Cheryl is survived by her husband of 34 years, Gary Demars; two sisters, Sandra Jean (John) Zanetti of Gwinn and Jacqueline Lee (Richard) Krutina of Escanaba, MI; nieces and nephews, Natalie (Robert) Dhamers, Suzanne (Joseph) Macario, Gina (Paul) Wilson, Jim (Theresa) Murray, Lori (Jim) Rian, Lori (Rick) LaMarch, Jeff (Tracy) Murray, Brian (Sharo) Murray, and Brent (Kris) Krutina; also surviving are 24 great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth Gunner and Evelyn Dorothy (Bruce) Peterson.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. Anthony Catholic Church in Gwinn with the Rev. John Boyle officiating.

Friends may call at the Baraga Room of the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the Mass.
