Arthur W. ‘Bill’ Lehtinen

DIORITE, Mich. - Arthur W. "Bill" Lehtinen Jr., age 68 of 2606 County Road CKK, Ely Township, passed away on Friday, June 15, 2012, at the Marquette General Hospital where he had been a patient since this past Tuesday.

Art was born June 22, 1943, in Ishpeming the son of Charlotte (Gustafson) and the late Arthur Lehtinen Sr. He grew up in the Ishpeming area and was a graduate of the Ishpeming High School, Class of 1961. Art worked for the State of Michigan as a corrections officer at the Marquette Branch Prison, Camp Baraga and retired from Camp Kitwen in Painesdale in 1997.

Art loved the outdoors and enjoyed spending time at camp and fishing on Lake Superior. He played horseshoes for the Greenwood American Legion Team and could always find time for fellowship with his friends. He and his wife Gloria had wintered in Apache Junction, AZ, for several years.

Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Gloria of Diorite Location; his mother, Charlotte Lehtinen of Ishpeming; 4 stepchildren, Kevin (Tracey) Stacy of Brighton, MI, Gregory Grund of Ishpeming, Jeanette Grund of Saline and Michelle Grund of Gwinn; a brother George Lehtinen of Soldotna, AK; 3 grandchildren, Britny, Taylor and Mickayla; along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Lehtinen Sr., and an infant brother David Lehtinen.

A memorial service for Art will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 7, 2012, at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home with the Rev. Lauri O. Maki to officiate. The family will greet relatives and friends from 10 11 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.

A luncheon will be held at the Ely Township Hall following the memorial service.
