Westwood Classes of 1979/80 repeat as champs in alumni softball tournament

ISHPEMING - The Classes of 1979/80 repeated as champions of the Red Division with a 6-5 extra-innings victory on Wednesday over the classes of 1981/82/83 in the 12th Annual Westwood Alumni Softball Tournament.

D.J. Harrington registered the game-winning hit in the bottom of the 10th inning while Terry Dobson went 4 for 4 at the plate for the back-to-back champions.

In the White Division final, the Class of 2000 defeated the Class of 1999, 6-4. Brad Nelson had three hits for 1999. Joe Ogea went 3 for 3 for 2000 and was credited as the winning pitcher in the final.

The Class of 2008 took down the NICE Staff, 8-5, for the Blue Division title. Chris Steele picked up the win on the mound and Bryan Arseneau went 2 for 2 at the plate. Kim Koski had an in-the-park home run for the NICE Staff.

Champion routed National Mine in the opening game of the Fourth of July finals, 13-4. Champion's Jim Mitchell (1962) went 4 for 4 at the plate and his teammate, Whiskers Nelson (1976), went 3 for 3. For National Mine, Dave Spencer went 3 for 3.
