MSHS, WHS leading state

MARQUETTE - Marquette and Houghton each won four state titles, and Westwood and St. Ignace took three apiece, to top the state's Parade of Champions for the 2011-12 school year, according to a news release from the Michigan High School Athletic Association.

MSHS won Upper Peninsula titles - which count as state championships - in girls swimming, Division 1 girls cross country, and D1 boys track and field and D1 girls track and field.

Westwood claimed titles in Division 2 girls golf, D2 boys tennis and D2 girls tennis.

Two Lower Peninsula schools also won four titles and two more three championships as a total of 18 schools were multiple state champions.
