MANCHESTER, MI. - R. Joseph DeVooght, age 63, passed away on Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on November 13, 1948 in Marquette, MI, the son of Rene and Estelle (Papin) DeVooght. He worked as a Psychiatric Social Worker at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Ann Arbor since 1989 and was also a veteran of the U.S. Army.
On September 14, 1974, he married Nancy G. Douglas and she survives. Also surviving are five children: Rebecca DeVooght of East Lansing, Joseph (Kerry) DeVooght of Washington, D.C., Heidi DeVooght (Brian O'Rourke) of Chicago, David DeVooght (Vilma Valdez), Matthew DeVooght, both of Pagosa Springs, CO; three grandchildren: Cecilia, Ella, and Oliver; his parents of Marquette; nine siblings: Mary (Sonny) Shegan of Trout Creek, MI, Dan DeVooght of Marquette, Terry (Dick) Goodwin of Wisconsin, Pat (Bill) Sill of Gaines, MI, Judy (Dean) Moenck of Franklin, MI, Mike (Marianne) DeVooght of Pagosa Springs, Bill (Mary) DeVooght of Marquette, Helen (Joe) Bicigo of Marquette, and Tim (Kelly) DeVooght of Marquette; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Chelsea with Rev. Dr. William J. Turner, celebrant, and Fr. Tim Krzyzaniak and Fr. David Harvey con-celebrating. Burial will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Chelsea.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the St. Louis Center Legacy Campaign.
The family will receive friends at the Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. with Rosary at 7:30 p.m.
