MARQUETTE, Mich. - Susan Amelia Nebel, age 69, of 529 Center St., passed away June 26, 2012, at home with her husband and family at her side.
Born April 23, 1943, in Marquette, daughter of Harold and Mary (Sarka) Heiser, Susan was a 1961 graduate of Graveraet High School. Her early employment included several years at the First National Bank. She often told the story that the bank required all female employees to wear dresses or skirts and high heels. In her initial position as messenger, a job which required a lot of walking around town, she found this quite challenging. She was also employed at the Marquette County Airport for 15 years, where she worked for Marquette Executive Air, Simmons Airlines, and as station manager for American Eagle. She concluded her working career as deputy clerk at the Marquette Count District Court for ten years, retiring in early 2005.
Susan raised her three children as a single mom and was very proud that they all had earned college degrees. She enjoyed playing golf, bocce ball, cards, doing crossword and Sudoku puzzles, and was very skilled at creating stained glass projects. Most of all she treasured the time she spent with all of her grandchildren.
