MARQUETTE, Mich. - Susan Amelia Nebel, age 69, of 529 Center St., passed away June 26, 2012, at home with her husband and family at her side.
Born April 23, 1943, in Marquette, daughter of Harold and Mary (Sarka) Heiser, Susan was a 1961 graduate of Graveraet High School. Her early employment included several years at the First National Bank. She often told the story that the bank required all female employees to wear dresses or skirts and high heels. In her initial position as messenger, a job which required a lot of walking around town, she found this quite challenging. She was also employed at the Marquette County Airport for 15 years, where she worked for Marquette Executive Air, Simmons Airlines, and as station manager for American Eagle. She concluded her working career as deputy clerk at the Marquette Count District Court for ten years, retiring in early 2005.
Susan raised her three children as a single mom and was very proud that they all had earned college degrees. She enjoyed playing golf, bocce ball, cards, doing crossword and Sudoku puzzles, and was very skilled at creating stained glass projects. Most of all she treasured the time she spent with all of her grandchildren.

Susan and her husband Jim spent their retirement years camping during the summer months and wintering in Ft. Myers, FL, where they also served as volunteers in the Cape Coral Hospital. They enjoyed many short trips around the state playing tourist, and spending time with her two sisters and their husbands.
She is survived by her husband Jim, daughters Wendy Parent of Kauai, HI, Amy Parent (fiance Pete Reinl) of Milwaukee, Joe (Stacey) Parent of Traverse City; stepsons Kim Nebel of Ishpeming, Roger (Nancy) Nebel of Washington, D.C., Donald (Marie) Nebel of Portage, IN, Jon (Cindy) Nebel, Brian Nebel, Mark (Paula) Nebel and David Nebel, all of Marquette; 16 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; sisters Sandy (Norm) Pelto of North Port, FL, and Carol (David) Lundquist of Marquette; Karla Hardy, special friend of many years, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and stepson Jack Nebel.
