NEWBERRY - The recipient of this year's Ralph Sheehan Distinguished Service Award is Alfred "Al" LeMaire of the Newberry Lions Club.
LeMaire has been a Lion for 41 years in three cities, including Terre Haute, Ind., downstate Allegan and Newberry. This is the most prestigious award given by the Lions of The Upper Peninsula, Michigan District 10.
The award was established in 1979 in honor of Sheehan, a past international director, who was president of the Marquette Lions Club from 1941-1943 and an international director from 1944-1946. To receive the award, LeMaire has earned outstanding achievements at the state and district Level, and has an outstanding record on district service committees.
He has made outstanding contributions at the Newberry Lions Club and performed humanitarian achievements in the community.
