NEGAUNEE, Mich. - Benhard August Hill, age 68, passed away Wednesday, June 6, 2012 after a losing struggle with late stage prostate cancer while living in California in the loving care of his family.
Benhard was born June 4, 1944 in Negaunee to Alli and Jalmer. He graduated from Negaunee High School in 1962 and joined the army immediately afterwards. He was eventually sent to Vietnam, where he served for his initial stint and then chose not to reenlist, but to stay in Vietnam for another 11 years as a civilian. Afterwards he continued to live and work abroad, and his life brought him to Saudi Arabia, Greenland, Kuwait, Colorado, Missouri and California. He was a loving father, brother, uncle and friend to many around the world.
Ben is survived by his three sons and his brothers Bruce, Dan, and Stevie, and his sisters Verona, June, and Betty. He was preceded in death by his parents Alli and Jalmer and his siblings Alice, Elaine, Sharon, Gail, Einer, Virginia, Melvin, and Charles 'Boyu'.
