Jennie Matilda (Suobank) Grund

CHAMPION, Mich. - Jennie Matilda (Suobank) Grund, age 87, of 2318 County Road CKK, Champion, went peacefully in her sleep to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday morning, June 24, while residing at Brookridge Heights of Marquette. She was under the care of Brookridge staff plus U.P. Home Health and Hospice.

She was born on March 5, 1925, in Champion to the late Michael and Jennie (Jolgren) Suobank. She was a lifelong resident of Champion and Diorite, with a brief time in Detroit during World War II. She was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker plus worked part time through the years for many places, including as a secretary for Allis Chalmers, a clerk for Miracle Markets, and as township treasurer for Ely Township. She was a creative artist who found fulfillment and success with many mediums and continued to draw until her last days.

Survivors include her daughter Kaye (Paul) Steinke of Florida, nine grandchildren Justin (Keenan), Joel, and Joshua Steinke, Gregory, Jeanette, Michelle, Samuel, and Christopher Grund, and Lenore Nelson, three great-granddaughters Sawyer Steinke and Britny and Mickayla Grund, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents and all her siblings, her husband, John Grund, Jr., and her two sons, Michael and Terry.

A private memorial celebration of her life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Bethel Lutheran Church of Ishpeming, where she was a long time faithful member.
