Art camps for kids in Big Bay

BIG BAY - Liberty Children's Art Project will teach two five-day art camps for children 6 and older this summer at the Powell Township School Outdoor Studio. Session one will be held July 16-20, with a morning session, Family Tree: Painting, Mural Collage, Printmaking, and Clay Creations from 10:30 to 11:45 for children grades 1-6; and a session, Clay Workshops: Learn to throw pots on the Potter's Wheel as well as Hand building large clay sculptures from 1 to 2:30 for students grades 6-12.

Session two will be held Aug. 13-17, again with classes for both younger students from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m., offering Hidden Treasures of Lake Superior creations in painting, printmaking, sculpture and clay with an emphasis on shipwecks. An afternoon session for older students from 1 to 2:30 will offer Continuing throwing pots on the Potter's Wheel, Creating Assemblage Sculpture with Junk and Hot Glue.

At both sessions, free clay will be offered for younger students who want to return in the afternoon.

These classes will meet at the Powell Township School Outdoor Studio (on the playground.) 101 Deutsch in Big Bay. Students may attend some or all days. Classes are free to Powell Township children, but open to all children in the Upper Peninsula for $20 per week, $5 for one day workshop.
