ROUND LAKE, Ill. - Roy M. Kemppainen, age 71, passed away June 16, 2012 at Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.
He was born January 27, 1941 in Salo, Michigan to William and Susanna (Puska) Kemppainen. On July 15, 1967, he married Azalea Skrzypek in Dekalb, Illinois.
In 1952, he moved to Fairport Harbor, Ohio. Roy graduated from Harding High School in 1958, and attended Soumi College in Hancock, Michigan. He served in the United States Army in the 1960s during the Vietnam War.
He was a Round Lake resident for 40 years. He was employed as a production planner for Maclean-Fogg for over 30 years. While living in Round Lake he was a member of the American Legion Post 1170.
Survivors include two sons, Scott Kemppainen of Round Lake, Dale (Kim) Kemppainen of Rockford; a brother, Rev. Rudolph (Darley) Kemppainen of Ishpeming, Michigan; three grandchildren, Tara, Krystal, and Ryan; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Azalea, on January 27, 2009; his parents; two sisters, Elma Hogya and Martha Rothenberger; and three brothers, Alfie, Carl, and Raymond.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at Justen's Round Lake Funeral Home, 222 W. North Rosedale Court (at Cedar Lake Road), Round Lake, IL 60073.
The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 20, at the funeral home. The Rev. Lisle Kauffman will officiate.
Interment will be in East Fox Lake Cemetery, Lake Villa.
