GWINN, MI. - Francis J. Lemieux Sr. died April 13, 2012 at 76 years of age. Mr. Lemieux was born in Menominee, Michigan on December 30th, 1935. Shortly after his birth his family moved to Marquette where he stayed until 1953.
When he was seventeen years old, Francis enlisted into the United States Navy as a machinist mate. He left the Navy after his first enlistment and met the love of his life, Cora Tolman. He then reenlisted to start their life adventure. Francis served 25 years in the Navy ending up being a commissioned officer which was a source of pride.
Francis and Cora had four children, Vicky, Francis Jr., Gerald, and Robert. Completing the family are eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. One of Francis' greatest joys was to go blueberry picking with his grandchildren. He seemed to be in paradise when the coffee can hanging from his neck overflowed with Marquette county blueberries.
After he retired from the Navy, Francis continued to work at maintaining his rental properties. He was a hard-working and smart man. He did all the work on his properties, whether it was water heater repair or roofing.
Francis was a member of the VFW and the American Legion. Whenever Francis and Cora traveled, they would search out the two veteran groups to talk and socialize with the local veterans. Francis and Cora have been to every state including Hawaii and Alaska.
Francis had many friends with whom he played cards and traveled. Jack and Carol Coyne were close companions. During the harsh northern Michigan winters, the four friends would escape to Florida. They would play cards nightly and enjoy each others company.
Francis has been an inspiration to many. His work ethic and motivation demonstrates that with a little hard work, one can be successful. With his many accomplishments, he will be missed. Francis, you are loved and will never be forgotten.
