MARQUETTE - A current U.S. Olympic Education Center wrestler and two recruits helped Team USA win titles in both Greco-Roman and freestyle competition at the 2012 Pan American Junior Championships June 6-9 in Peten Guatemala.
USOEC recruit Ramon Moreno (Miami Lakes, Fla.) pocketed a silver medal in both Greco-Roman and freestyle.
He captured his silver in Greco-Roman at 50 kilograms by defeating Oscar Lopez of Guatemala, 0-4, 1-1, 1-2.
Moreno claimed his freestyle medal by beating Aheed Lakani of Canada, 4-2, 3-1.
"(Moreno) is very energetic and is eager to keep getting better," USOEC head coach Rob Hermann said.
Isaiah Verona of Homestead, Fla., another USOEC recruit, placed fifth at 55-kg in Greco-Roman. He also posted a third in freestyle by beating Lucas Pavon of Argentina by a pin.
Meanwhile, USOEC wrestler and Northern Michigan University sophomore Nick Alvarez of Homestead, Fla., also earned points for Team USA by placing fifth at 66-kg in Greco-Roman competition.
"We've got great recruits coming in here," Hermann said, "and I was happy to see all three of these guys attend the competition.
"All three paid their own expenses to make the trip to gain more international experience."
