Benefit set for dog attack victim

MUNISING - A benefit is planned for Thursday for a Munising child who suffered injuries in a canine attack in May.

Makayla Whitehead, 8, was attacked while getting off the school bus at a babysitter's house and has had five surgeries since with more treatment ahead, according to benefit organizers.

The benefit will be at Bayshore Park in Munising from 5 to 8 p.m.. There will be food from Johnny Dogs and the Cooking Carberrys, live music featuring Gator & The River Boys, kids' games, face painting, a 50/50 raffle and a bake sale.

The cost for this event is $6 per person. Those attending should bring lawn chairs and blankets to the park as seating is limited.
