Students participate in STEP program

Powell Township School fifth-grade students who participated in a recent Student Tools for Emergency Planning program are: Front row, from left, Alex Durand, Katie Varty, Camila Tierrablanca and Jeremiah Brown; and back row, from left, Amaya Rodenborg, Thomas Kinjorski and Liam Thew-Forrester. The STEP Program is a national program emergency preparedness program that was taught to fifth graders by Michigan State Police trooper Stacey Rasanen of the Negaunee post and Teresa Schwalbach, emergency management coordinator for Marquette County. Schools that took part in the program in Marquette County were Sawyer, Father Marquette, Powell Township, Gilbert and Ishpeming. A total of 185 fifth-grade students took part in the program.
